A Letter from the Hearts of Ginger and Marlo |

A little girl went on a field trip to a hospital with her kindergarten class. After viewing the nurse’s station, maternity ward, and a variety of examining instruments, the class was led into an x-ray room. Glowing images filled the walls as the doctor pointed to various body parts and explained to the children the makings of a healthy human being. “This is the skull. This is the femur. These are the ribs … and if you will look very closely, hiding behind the ribs, you’ll see the heart.” Perplexed by this information, the little girl raised her hand and said, “I don’t think that person is very healthy.” Why would you say that?” the doctor curiously asked. “Because I don’t see Jesus in there anywhere. If that heart was healthy, it would have Jesus in it!” The simple faith of a child. Whether five or fifty-five, the moment Jesus reveals himself to us and we trust him as Savior and Lord, we become his children. We are born again, made new, and become thirsty for spiritual milk. As we begin taking baby steps of faith, we find ourselves wide-eyed with wonder as we see creation in a new light. We walk in awe of God the Father and his amazing love for us. However, as we grow and mature, something happens. The newness begins to wear off, the wonder fades, and the awe dims. Thirst for God subsides and “want to” is replaced with “ought to.” What happens? Life happens. We become busy with the responsibilities of day to day living, preoccupied with goals and dreams, and wrapped up in our own agendas. The happenings of life demand our maturity. However, through the Girls at Heart conference, our mission is to encourage women that no matter how grown up and responsible we become, God’s will is for our faith to remain child-like. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Mark 10:15) Jesus also told of how the mysteries of God are “hidden from the wise and learned, and revealed to little children.” (Matthew 11:25) We may be successful career women ~ devoted wives ~ healing widows ~ ~ stay-at-home mothers ~ working mothers ~ or single ambassadors of faith. As modern day women, we wear multiple hats and fill many roles. However, when it comes to a real relationship between us and our Heavenly Father - may we lay aside our earthy hats, and return to the sweet simplicity of being … |
